Give your AI assistant its own email
Your assistant doesn't need your password. It needs an address of its own, and the mail you choose to send it.
Give your AI assistant its own email address instead of your password. Register one in a single API call, forward or CC it the mail it needs, and let it reply from its own address. You decide what it sees; it never has access to the rest of your mailbox, and you can revoke it without touching your own account.
Why not just connect your Gmail?
It reads everything
Mailbox access is all or nothing: bank mail, medical results, your partner's messages. An assistant with your inbox can be prompted by any email that lands in it.
It speaks as you
Every message it sends comes from you. A mistake is your mistake, in your name.
It is hard to take back
Revoking means OAuth settings, app passwords or a password change, and it may be locked into other things.
Set it up in three steps
Free to set up: registration and receiving cost nothing.
Register, forward, read
Use your mail client's filters to forward only what the assistant should handle, such as receipts, travel confirmations or a newsletter digest.
When you want it in a conversation, CC its address. It reads with its API key and replies from its own address.
With Claude Code, Claude Desktop or Cursor, connect the MCP server instead of writing code.
# 1. Give the assistant its own address (once)
curl -s -X POST https://api.mailgi.xyz/v1/agents/register \
-H "Content-Type: application/json" -d '{"label":"my-assistant"}'
# => {"emailAddress":"quiet-otter@mailgi.xyz","apiKey":"amb_..."}
# 2. In Gmail or Outlook, add a filter that forwards
# receipts / travel / newsletters to quiet-otter@mailgi.xyz
# (or just CC it when you want it involved)
# 3. The assistant reads its own inbox
curl -s "https://api.mailgi.xyz/v1/mail?limit=20" \
-H "Authorization: Bearer $MAILGI_API_KEY"
What it can do from its own inbox
Sign up for things on your behalf
Its own address receives the verification code, so the account is the assistant's, not yours.
Keep receipts and confirmations
File them into folders and answer “when does my flight leave?” from mail it already has.
Write to people as itself
Replies come from its address. Mail to people who wrote first costs $0.0005; a first message to a new address adds $0.02 once.
What it can't do yet
Search, threading headers and attachments aren't supported. It lists and reads messages and matches them itself.
Questions, answered
01Should I give my AI assistant access to my Gmail?
Only if you are comfortable with it reading everything and sending as you. A safer pattern is to give the assistant its own address and forward or CC it what it needs.
02How do I give an AI assistant its own email address?
Register one with a single POST to https://api.mailgi.xyz/v1/agents/register. It returns an address like quiet-otter@mailgi.xyz and an API key. No signup form or OAuth.
03Can I use my own domain for the assistant?
Yes. Attach the domain in the Mailgi dashboard, publish the DNS records it generates, then register the assistant as, say, assistant@yourdomain.com. Custom domains are free.
04Can I take the address away?
Yes. Revoke its API keys, or delete the agent. Your own mailbox is never involved.
One POST to start.
No signup form, no OAuth, no card to start. Receiving is free.
